When I'm in "business mode", I don't and can't discriminate. It's bad business. Plus, I just like everybody. I can't think of one thing that would disgust me enough to not to a video or tv show for/about that person. People that do discriminate against G Ays and others won't be in business very long...it's just how it is today.
IMHO this goes against separation of church and state. I've always thought that idea was laughable because religion is all over our laws and government, but to now have a government pass this law...it's 100% making a law based on a specific religion. They aren't even trying to hide it. And it's a law based on the Governors religion so it's not even like they took other religions into account.
I was thinking of something like doing a documentary where you followed the K-K-K around. They've been known to spew hatred towards certain groups.

My TV shows are my own concepts so I don't have very many "clients".
But I need a city with lots of events to keep some of my shows and business going. Losing the combine, NCAA tourneys, Gen-Con, and other businesses hurts me because the less content I have, the less shows I can make. Every year I shoot tv shows at these events. So if people withdraw from the city because of this bill, my business gets hurt and I have no control over it.
The other thing I don't get is why do you have to make a law about it? If a business doesn't want to service a certain segment of the population, word gets out, and the public will ultimately decide if that business stays or goes. Basic Capitalism. Let the market decide.
This whole thing started with a bakery that didn't want to make cupcakes for a G ay wedding. Word got out and the bakery closed 3 months later due to lack of business. There...basic Capitalism. The market decided. The same thing will happen with or without this law. All this law does is say the business has the right to discriminate..it doesn't say the business will survive. So why bring such negative attention to an issue with tons of backlash?
I do know this...next years election in this state is going to be veeeery entertaining. A lot of Republicans who normally vote Republican are going to be in a tough spot if they see financial troubles based on this bill. If there's a Republican business owner who sees a decrease in business or a decrease in the city's conventions...I can see them changing their vote to the Dems.
I think the Republican party could be in for a long election campaign. The Democrats can now run on repealing the bill and being friendly to businesses and all walks of life. It's a lot of ammunition to have next year.
well, hopefully you'll get through this nonsense without any permanent damage to your business.
i imagine this ridiculous law got passed for the same reason many unnecessary laws get passed. the people who buy the politicians push it and their government servants make it happen. i suspect they didn't think the backlash would be like this. fortunately for you, i think, these overbearing religious types and their big government prostitutes primarily pray to the all powerful god of $$$ and as soon as the $$$ god gets angry with these backwards folks, you'll see their "religious beliefs" change.

Absolutely. I cover interesting and polarizing things. I can disagree with someone's message and still make a bomb-a$$ show about it.

alan, unfortunately, "religious liberty" trumps all of that. while the bible considers wearing mixed fiber clothing, getting tattoos, eating shellfish, marrying someone who isn't a virgin, premarital sex, divroce and many other things a sin, most importantly, it suggests homosexuality is a sin so that must be stopped and "small government" republicans need to get government to involved to pass lows to further God's will in this matter.
"religious liberty" used to be invoked to attack those black folks but unfortunately, that's not as accepted as it used to be so we need to redirect "religious liberty" to attack the sinful gays. i'm sorry for the threat to your business but your business is not as important as God's will.

Stupid move by the republicans. Makes no sense whatsoever.
On a side note...............hey Club, you ever make fun of the Quran or is it just the Bible? If so, point me in the direction of those posts. I would love to read what you write about a book that promotes killing non- believers etc...... I bet those posts are a hoot.

bettingforfun, i almost never make fun of the quran. the quran and the muslims who interpret it for hate, discrimination, etc have next to no influence here. as soon as politicians start making laws and policies here based on some crazy interpretation of the quran, you'll see those posts. and yes, they will be a hoot.

Appreciate the response although I was sure you would have had a few posts. You can spin it as a "crazy interpretation" but having read it it seems straight forward to me. Call me "crazy" but I would much rather argue with a Christian over my mixed fiber clothing than I would a Muslim over whether I could keep my head attached to my body or not. That's just me though. From what I can tell you are more offended by the former.

Angie's List is based here, and are planning a new headquarters office building on the East side of Indianapolis.
Well, make that WAS planning. CEO just announced the plans are cancelled, and they are looking into new cities.
Isn't this supposed to be the fiscally responsible party
If the people there are looking to relocate they should take a look at Detroit. Real Estate is dirt cheap. People there must be eager to work since the town is in shambles. Not a long move from Indy. I would think whoever is running that place now would offer tax breaks for companies relocating there. In fact Detroit should already be rolling out the red carpet.

as i explained, i'm not more offended by the former, i just know that the stuff the crazy or bigoted muslims are doing is not happening so much in my country. i could get all fired up about every religious killing in africa, the middle east, indonesia and other places far away, but i only have so much energy to worry about that. so, i stick to the stuff happening in our country that affects me and people i actually know.

Now are you saying that you have never commented on stories outside of the US because..................
" i stick to the stuff happening in our country that affects me and people i actually know".

not saying that. that quote you picked out was in response to your specific question. you asked why i don't comment on the quran and muslims. the reason, as i've said twice now, is that that particular form of religious crazy and discrimination don't really affect me because it largely happens in places i don't live, won't visit and don't know any people. if that changes, i will start commenting on muslim nonsense.
that being said, i don't post much about stuff happening in other countries when it comes to other issues. probably for the same reason,m although i wasn't thinking about the many other issues in the world because you only asked about the one issue.

Did you ever comment on Benghazi? If so, was it to defend the Obama administration or did you condemn crazy Muslims for killing Americans for religious reasons?

The Republicans sided with the shop, and the public went the other way. The shop closed in 3 months because everyone stopped going there and business dried up.
That's what I don't get. The public is against this bill, financially it's going to crush Indianapolis potentially, but they went full speed ahead.
That's how the system is supposed to work. Let the people decide what is right or wrong. Not a stupid politician.
The people of Indianapolis will overcome this. Sometimes it takes negative actions to make positive ones.

benghazi. i'm sure i did. i don't recall the specifics of my posts from 2012 but i think one issue was what government screwup was actually proven after all of those hearings.

Good question. Ben Carson spoke about prison inmates learning specific happy sexual behavior.
Some on here may be appalled that you even ask the question. The prison inmate behavior may suggest that your question has merit.
Thus, I may be appalled at such short-sightedness.
No - the question has no merit. How in the hell is he a surgeon?
Inmates don't become g@y in prison. Inmates PRETEND to be g@y while in prison. If the men were given conjugal visits with women - the straight men would never participate in g@y sex.
Take a g@y man and put him in a cell with a woman for a long period of time and he will PRETEND to be straight.
The g@y man remains g@y whether or not he has sex with a man or woman.
The straight man pretends to be g@y when the option of a woman is not there.

What was actually proven was there was a White House cover-up........
Suppress documents, with held e-mail exchanges, manufactured the bogus claim, that a anti-Muslim video protest was the cause of the attack ...planned deception by the Obama administration to hide the truth about Benghazi from the American people ..lies ! that's what was proven..
