seems like there are two issues that i know danrules appreciate. one, are you in favor of the government making laws that protect women from pay discrimination. two, whether you are in favor of it or not, is it a good idea for the republicans to be against it given their perception among women and other minorities. in other words, do they really need to fight for every last dollar for corporations on every issue or might this be a good time to relent a little to at least give the appearance of helping women, a fairly sizable voting bloc?
My comments were directed at the Republicans not being very smart politically. They give the Dems plenty of ammo like the so called War on Women nonsense. As far as politics go, in an election year in which they could very well win back the Senate, as a political advisor I would recommend that they back legislation calling for equal pay for equal work. Would be a smart political move and not alienate a large voting block needed in November.
As for my personal beliefs, I have never run a company or been responsible for hiring. I don't think pay should be mandated by govt. A business owner should pay based on the individual and their performance not based on title, race or gender. If I have two employess doing the same job and employee A (a man) is always on time, goes above and beyond while employee B (a woman) is late on occasion and just not as good as employee A, I should have the right to pay employee A more without the threat of being sued for discrimination. This is also why I can never understand why any hard working person could take a job in which tips are pooled and split. A really good waitress gets unfairly punished by having to share her outstanding work with crappy waitresses.
From someone who never had to be responsible for payroll, my question is, why, if true, do women make less for the same work? Is it because the business pays a higher cost for insurance for women and they are balancing it out? The possibility that a woman will get pregnant and quit? I'd love for one of you guys that runs a business or ever have to chime in. Did women at your company get paid less?
On a more overview look at the issue. Do women really make less than men for having the exact same job and doing the exact same thing? Do men work longer hours thus make more money? I keep hearing that women make 88 cents to $1 for a man, but is this for the exact work/title at the same company. I don't believe so. I think this takes all jobs into consideration which brings many variables into the equation.

Club, I'd still like to see proof that all things being equal, that a woman is paid less than a man. You can't simply use overall pay of men and women all lumped together, that doesn't mean anything without context.
That evidence or proof may be out there, I'd just like to see it.

But should we assume that it is an issue? I haven't seen any other numbers other than all men and women lumped together as far as pay goes. As mentioned, so many variables. Not saying their isn't a study out there that shows women are paid less for the same job with everything else being equal, I just haven't seen it and really don't have time to do the legwork on this. Too much baseball going on.

Do you think that any of the "anti-government involvement" right wingers in this thread are opposed when State governments (and previously the federal government, and if Rand Paul or any other Republican is elected sans Christie will try again) have tried to enact laws that define marriage as between a man and a woman?
For whatever their personal views are, at least Tilt and Dan 'get' it.

Very uninformative article. Are we talking same pay for same job or same pay for same work? Same as the requirements in military PTs? Lot less pushups for women? But same pay, etc. If roofers get paid by hour they get the same pay? If paid by amount of roofing done; get paid by how much work you do no matter what your sex is? etc?
And like that weak article says: by hour less difference. So way too many factors. If women doing same job and same work; should get same pay. If anyone doing less work but same job: should get less pay no matter sex.
Lotta variables---all paople not the same in a productive sense. Show me where women make less at a job but they are as productive as men. Harder to do than you think.

So clearly you are opposed when the government decides who can and can't marry right? I mean, after all, isn't that THEIR business.
Oh wait......
