People don't realize how
vital the postal service is to the economy. Small businesses do not have
the resources larger corporations do and they often use the postal
service if they need to ship anything. Also there are millions of people
who live in areas that the larger shipping companies do not ship to and
they rely on the postal service to get the shipment to the actual
person.
The bill targets the elimination of more than 100,000 postal jobs and would dramatically cut service“Cuts such as the ones the chairman has proposed would drive
more mail out of the postal system and could send the Postal Service
into a death spiral,” Rolando said, “and they would diminish USPS’
ability to take advantage of the obviously booming e-commerce market.”

I believe the only reason the USPS has any problems is the requirement that they fund their pensions and healthcare 75 years in advance. I believe the law was put in place during bush 2 but not positive. 75 yrs in advance is asinine

I am glad in retrospect that I left the Post Office, definitely a good move.
It used to be that you could count on good benefits, and a pension if you stayed with them for long enough, but they were clearly feeding off of the new employees.
My generation will not get benefits, previous generations have ensured that they will be impossible.
Is it possible that the baby boomer generation is the greediest and most corrupt generation that has ever existed in American history?

What is killing the post office, is demanding that they pre fund their pension plan for 75 years. Essentially saying that they need to pay for employees that have not even been born yet.
I understand pre-funding, and it makes sense, and I support it, but 75 years is excessive. 25 years should be more than sufficient.

If you want to understand why the USPS simply cannot compete, go to a foreign country and ask to mail an item, or better yet, start a business and pay for mass mailings. The prices of the USPS are simply such that they cannot compete when asked to perform the tasks they are faced with. It is simply designed to benefit (mostly) large businesses who can take advantge of the mass mailings prices, which are already outrageously low.

rick, now you're running your own mysterious company eh?
Went back to school, getting my MBA (GI BILL), and started a small company. Not pulling down millions, but I get by and it beats unemployment. Also focusing on trading again, and volunteering for some Army details (ranges/training).
It is not mysterious, I just don't want to tell you what it is, because it is tied to my name and home address. Not the type of Stuff I want on the interwebs.

Say what you want about the USPS, they pay for themselves year after year ( outside of the pre-funding of the pension plan that congress mandated). They are surviving by doing the ground grunt work for pennies on the dollar for FedEx and UPS.

Interesting stuff. Good luck with the business
Yeah I hear you. I was talking to shrimp a while back about some stuff in maryland and sarasotaslim stalking those posts sent me a private message soliciting some gayy s hit.
Gotta watch out for these online predators man, they're everywhere.

Seems like something about this thread has gotten under the sarasotaSnitch online predator's skin...
On second thought, perhaps this not a laughing matter...
R-Closets are such a bizzare, but also sad bunch... It must be really tough to be prescribed to hate himself by his partisan rhetoric... That type of pain and self loathing filtered through his denial probably accounts for his extremely odd behavior...
I really wouldn't wish this affliction on anyone...

but I think that the point you made about the generational thing makes alot of sense to me... I mean considering the values to the baby boomer generation, how they view taking care of themselves and not caring about other generations to come makes sense...
this basic sentiment seems to be a core value for many....
you would think that taking care of the future, setting the next generations up for success and prosperity and leaving an example and legacy for future generations to follow would seem like simple American Family Values...
Its always weird to me how certain groups of people are so hell bent working against and destroying American Family Values...
