According to a new Gallup poll of those who watched last week’s presidential debate, 72% picked Mitt Romney as the winner, while only 20% thought Barack Obama won.

That”s the biggest win in history, exceeding even Bill Clinton’s 42% advantage in his townhall debate over George H.W. Bush (the one where Bush checked his watch).

The numbers on Romney vs. Obama reflect those of snap opinion polls.

According to Gallup, Republicans gave him a 95% win over Obama, Independents picked him, 70%-19%, and even Democrats thought Romney won, 49%-39%.

But does that really matter?

Yes, Gallup notes that in the three days following the debate, Romney erased a 5% deficit among registered voters to tie Obama, 47%-47%.

how did he win?  did romney disclose which tax loopholes he is going to close to fund his tax plan?  what other specifics were stated during the "debate"?

DL already has a corner on asking inane questions in an attempt to appear "intellectual". It doesn't work for him either. How about you pay attention for yourself. Romney clearly boat raced the dingbat from DC.

The debate format doesn't permit extensive detailed answers, I'm surprised that you didn't realize that. What details did Obama disclose regarding any subject matter?

That debate illustrated the huge gap in competence that exists between the "community organizer"  and the CEO .

The public's confidence in Obama took a beating in Denver that night.

Yeah, he won if just sounding sharp, aggressive & confident is your main criteria regardless if Romney's whole basic premise with regards to job creation/debt reduction is false (that lower taxes & less regs will create a ton of jobs, get the economy on track & balance the budget) & if you're fudgin things along the way. From that standpoint, Romney definitely won. On content, it didn't change much.

Looked like Obama didn't expect Romney to be quite as sharp, nuanced & prepared and didn't want to come across as being defensive in any way or appear to be making any excuses. But he took it way too far & didn't even attack or come back at mittens when he had great openings & opportunities. Was amazed at that & it let Mitt just get more relaxed, confident & forceful as it went on. Next 2 should be good & I expect Obama to perform much better & go on to win a close election. FO MO for Obama/Biden!!

If this election is so critical for the country as most seem to say, they oughta have 'em for 2.5 hrs instead of 1 and a half. Let 'em expound in detail & then come back at each other. Too much gets cutoff too early -

A new Marquez Presidential telephone survey finds that 47% of Democrats surveyed favor Oama over Romney ...with MOE of +/- 3 percentage points....with a 95% level of confidence..

SS - I don't put much faith in polls. Seems like for every 1 that says 1 thing, there's another that says something different. I do think reasonable folks can disagree about what is needed most & what will be the most helpful going forward. But I don't see how reasonable people can disagree about the fact that despite minimal regs & major tax cuts in '01 & '03, that job creation was the worst in 50 yrs under Bush despite a far more stable economy (before '08 anyhow) than Obama faced coming in. And that seems to be Romney's whole deal - that & gettin rid of Obamacare...

I agree polls are for "Strippers And Cross-Country Skiers'

                                                                              ~Sarah Palin

But ,with all the Obama talk about evil Wallstreet and it's alleged criminal activities, how come there have been zero Wall Street prosecutions under Obama/Holder  ?

Compare that with his predecessors Bush and Clinton:

Bush: 1,300 convictions; Clinton: 1,000 convictions; Obama: Zero attempts.

SS - that's a good question. Don't know, maybe with the crisis that existed/bailouts & because it was so widespread & deeply entangled systemically, they just didn't want to screw with it or look where it all might lead, lol. Should of been more than a few folks goin to the clink imo. I'll check out the tune -

Should be entertaining & some fireworks in the debate tomorrow nite..

i don't think i've ever watched a debate, although it's impossible to escape the aftermath.

i'm not asking for extensive detailed answers.  i'm satisfied with starting at one and then working from there.  i didn't ask about obama's detailed responses because romney was considered the winner and i didn't understand how a person can win a debate without offering any specifics.  but if obama didn't offer any specifics either, why wouldn't it be a tie, equally disingenuous, pathetic performances, to anyone looking to analyze the respective positions beyond which one is wearing a nicer suit.

Did you forget the impact on the economy that 9/11 had?

I seem to remember the whole travel industry buckling at the knees. I seem to remember people panicking as if we were headed for a recession at that time. It seems to me also that the economy came back to life under Bush and his policies. If the economy hadn't have recovered at the time then there would have been no housing bubble burst in 2007/2008.

Were you born yesterday? Or do you just choose to be somewhat credible?
