Politico  It was a rather odd sight: as an array of museum officials, including former first lady Laura Bush, took up shovels at the groundbreaking for the first national museum dedicated exclusively to African American history and culture, the nation's first black president sat watching, no shovel in hand.

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama attended the ceremony Wednesday for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, and he delivered remarks.

“Just as the memories of our earliest days have been confined to dusty letters and faded pictures, a time will come when few people remember drinking from a colored water fountain or boarding a segregated bus,” the president said. This museum “will do more than simply keep those memories alive. …this museum should …stand as proof that the most important things in life rarely come quickly or easily.”

When he finished and returned to his seat, a call was put out for groundbreakers to gather at the front of the stage. Obama then stood, buttoned his jacket and prepared to join in. But an official whispered something to him and he sat back down as museum officials and members of the museum's advisory council, including the former first lady, picked up shovels for the ceremonial turning of the dirt. The Obamas remained on stage.

                            ************************

The word is the Grave Diggers Union #13 called and the something the offical whispered to the President was  "No card ..No work '..that's when the Obama's sat back down ..

I don't know SLim, but to me, it sounds quite racist to pick on one race and dedicate a month to that races history.  It seems to me that someone has an agenda to stoke racial tensions,,,,,and maybe you're on to something. The term African-American is race baiting in itself, it's as if they want you to disassociate regular Americans and black people

Groundbreaking, by a President when in attendance is protocol..but Barry lost out on a shovel ready job...because didn’t have TOTUS to tell him what to do ..

is it coincidence that you omitted the part of the article that says

"White House officials said that only museum officials and advisers were scheduled to take part in the shoveling. They said that was part of the agreed upon plan between the White House and the museum."

or are you suffering from copy and paste fatigue?

to quote someone "I guess you didn't look at the video ......", had you, you would have noticed there were the same number of shovels as people shoveling, there werent 2 extra shovels for obama and michelle, thus rendering your claim of "no card no work" false.

Holy garbage........ just clicked your link.

It wasn't a dig.... it was a photo op for white people.

They were inside an auditorium holding shovels.

I omited nothing ..I posted the link from Politico...

"White House officials said "   ..an anonymous White House offical said ...so it must be true and since the Smithsonian spokeswoman who is getting a grant agreed ...

.......and I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with Obama requesting $85M in his fiscal 2013 federal budget request Monday for the construction of the National Museum of African American History and Culture as part of his $856.8 million fiscal 2013 total, the President asked Congress to give the Smithsonian in fiscal 2013..

Watching people with shovels inside an Auditorium is over my head anyway.

What good is a shovel indoors?

This is just another example of Obama bashing.  Bashing him for being smart enough to not use a shovel to dig inside of an already built auditorium.

Obama NEEDS A PAY RAISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a progress from his usual plagiarism...

you can how shocked we all were to learn that his posts were simply regurgitated and copied talking point from elsewhere...
