#1 Posted: 10/9/2012 4:55:11 PM I have been getting crushed this year (compared to last 2 years where i had 15% and 11% return) I started making bad choices by getting into options and that was one of my downfalls. (especially calls VXX)
Now i am trying a new strategy by going 20% gold/10% silver I am thinking what i should do with companies that are not doing well for me (CAT, FB (yea i know)GS,C, i am about 20%+ down on them. Since I assume and have a feeling that the market will be going south should i just cut my loses and sell them at a loss or should i place some PUT options on them to even out the loss when they do start falling down. Than my next questions is what should i do with stocks that gave me great results such as BAC +80%,CCL+25%,MSFT +15% (about 20% of my portfolio) T +25%. Should i sell them if i and thinking market will go south? Problem is some of them are still under the short term. I will get taxed a lot more if they did not pass the 1 year mark.
What is the wise direction? I would appreciate if some of you can help me out with good reasons. Wallstreet- if you have a second i would like to hear your input.
Also, since i am really thinking market will go south what is the best way to bet against the market.

Were you going long term options or short term?

#4 Posted: 10/10/2012 11:05:18 AM I view gold choice a bit different. With Europe drama not ending anytime soon (most likely only getting worse) / US printing money/ and fiscal drama about to start again--I think it will only make gold stronger and i can't say that for stocks.
i was playing with options as short term. My initial plays were very profitable but after that it was all going south no matter if i had calls or puts. Just not going the right way.

as for your decision i think MSFT can weather a storm, but its just whether you want to time the market. |
