#1 Posted: 1/18/2011 7:23:16 PM Taking an informal poll here to get a sense of how many guys are long precious metals (gold, silver, palladium, platinum, etc) via the physical metal or equivalent futures (etf included) and what % of there portfolio/net worth is in the trade.
Trying to get a sense if people are in this trade in a small way or big way right now. I see the commercials on gold and I'm assuming retail is in this trade in a large way.
My allocation is as follows:
Gold: zero % Silver: zero % Other metals: zero %
Only thing that comes close is I have a 15% position in met coal stocks (anr, pcx).
Thanks in advance. Also curious if those have any opinions on how this trade will look 1-2 years out. |

#2 Posted: 1/19/2011 2:08:38 PM i have 10% & SLV- planning to buy few physical bullion's as well. i will stop with SLV when i hit 15-18% of total portfolio
i have very strong opinion about URA will try to get about 7-10% soon.
Also looking into J. Deer, Abbott and CAT but thats very expensive. wont diversify past that. u can see my portfolio on different thread. last year hit +17%

good luck with that
when it dipped to 26ish, i thought about dumping more of mine. But that quick run back to 30's and now busting thru new highs to 33+, i went on ebay to see what i could list some rolls of eagles for, and it seemed as if they were selling as high as 38$ each
I'll be damned if i'm selling into the march to 50

I agree completely, this is going to $50 IMO, but I do think we have a couple days of consolidation, maybe 2-3 days...Regardless of where it is, I will get back in. Just hoping for a small dip and will pounce again.
BTW, I had 50% of my portfolio in SLV, once I jump back in I will move to a 60-75% position. |

#8 Posted: 2/21/2011 3:13:38 PM Just saw that Silver is up to $33.85, completely guessed wrong on the continued run. Looks like it will be a Tuesday morning gapper for SLV. DAMN! |

#9 Posted: 3/2/2011 6:20:49 PM I took a poll here, on the trading desk, and with some of what I would call seasonal investors.
What I found is that most of these guys, not all, but 95% (took a poll of 50+) do not own any silver/gold or very little.
I think most feel underallocated this asset.
Good luck.
Price targets here are SLV hits $43 and GLD hits $1750 both over the next 12 months. I'm buying leaps.

#10 Posted: 3/14/2011 9:02:15 PM currently about 60% in slv oil and gld long term and ugl, agq, dyy, shorter term movement plays,..... got in agq at 127 but only own 100 shares currently bc i sold most around 150 and 175 levels...always good trade to take gains..... another 20% in energy etfs and the rest in cash to trade
i'd highly suggest commodity and energy stocks/etfs/funds whatever you are partial to and can get in to |

#12 Posted: 5/5/2011 9:42:12 PM ABANDON SHIP.....
BEEN A GREAT RIDE. SOLD SLV AT 41.....KICKED MYSELF FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS...NOW I WATCH IN AWE AT THE CARNAGE.
Looks like I started my post when SLV was about in the 6th inning....this trade is officially broken. GAME OVER.
I won't even consider re-entering until the 26-28s.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL. |
