Hello everyone, while the EU final is going to start in a bit (gonna stay away from that one, don't like the price for Liverpool) it has been a very turbulent afternoon in Dutch football, with important implications for the playoffs tomorrow.
It was announced today that FC Twente will lose its license as of immediately and relegate to Jupiler League. Their spot is filled with Willem II, who is set to play in the relegation playoffs tomorrow against NAC Breda.
So what will happen exactly? - For Willem II it does not matter at all whether they win or lose, they are safe already! - If Willem II wins, de Graafschap loses then also de Graafschap is saved. - If both Willem II and de Graafschap win, then even Cambuur (who was officially relegated) will stay up.
The coach of Willem II said that they will do their best regardless and they will fully go for the win, but we all know this has an influence.
The conclusions I have drawn from the events is to make the following bets, actually all three I already liked before this became public but now I like them even more:
Breda-Willem II, Breda ML @ 1.96 (4/10) Over 2.5 @ 1.93 (4/10) GA Eagles-de Graafschap, Under 2.5 @ 2.00 (4/10)
I want to make clear that these are by no means "locks" or anything, after all a situation like this has rarely if ever occurred so it is difficult to predict how Willem II will play this. I do expect the odds to go down quite a bit so I'm playing and posting this now.

Personally I would not put too much weight into this. The decision is not definate yet. So let's say Willem II doens't care and loses and then the decision is reversed.. Willem II has a big problem then. Besides, Willem II and NAC are big rivals, they cannot lose to NAC, their supporters won't accept that.

Thanks for your input, you actually do have a point with the rivalry! I'm curious, what makes you think that the decision might be reversed? The way I understood it the KNVB explicitely announced the consequences, surely they couldn't reverse that after the games have been played? I do agree that this does not mean Willem II will forfeit the match and let Breda override them, I do think this whole thing will be in the back of the head of some players though. I'm really curious to see how this will all play out, would not mind Willem II winning as I want de Graafschap to stay up.
In any case, what a strange time to announce it. I had lunch with some of my Dutch friends today and nobody saw that one coming..

The KNVB already told Twente one way or another that if they will sign an appeal against this they will loose their license so there is no way they possibly can.. I know the decisions isn't fully official yet but Twente does not have an option here. Kaiser is right with his write-up. Really dependa op Willem 2 if they will be fires up for this one, ofcourse they say they will go all-in here and play their best game but I doubt it. Nac has a chance but goals are the better option I guess, especially live if Willem 2 finds the net in the first half. Nac will play all or nothing for the rest of the game.
De Graafschap - Go Ahead will be a more tactical game, also leaning towards the under especially in the first half. Draw at half-time could be goos value here. Best striker Leon de Kogel of GA eagles will miss the game due suspension. Big blow for them can see de Graafschap keeping a cleansheet here. Goodluck

Well your bets were spot on. About the licensing: a lot of Dutch media are reporting that Twente is not accepting the punishment and the Jupiler League teams are not accepting it either. The latter won't accept it because it's already decided who is going to be the champions next season in that league (Twente, 20 million budget, the other teams 1/10th of that budget). I agree that it is not likely that the KNVB and the licencing commitee will reverse their decision, but I don't think it will effect the motivation of any of the teams.

To be fair, I got a bit lucky on the Breda game, didn't watch the entire game but from what I saw this could have gone wrong as well. I'm very surprised by the way the other game went, de Graafschap had some chances early on but their defending was absolutely terrible. I think they only way for them to stay up is to have Willem II go through..
I also read that Twente is going to contest the decision apparently bankruptcy would be looming, what a crazy situation this is.

Another crazy situation: Utrecht has not yet received a licence to play European football next year.. so they are playing these play offs for (maybe) nothing if they dont get a licence

Yes I'm aware but I reckon they will still go for it cause that should likely be avoided right? I think if Utrecht goes for it they should win this one as well..
Adding this one:
Willem II-Breda, Breda +0.5 @ 1.72 (3/10)
By the way, from the way the reporter on Fox Sports is commenting it appears a done deal that Graafschap gets relegated? There still is the chance if Willem II goes through right?
