Anyone have, or had, one of these? What's your experience with them? I've rode in a couple & they strike me as ok for a local commuter but rough to be in for any more than an hour. Anyhow, my daughter has been driving a Ford Focus for about 10 years now. It has been a good car, & while she doesn't complain about it, she has made mention of how she likes the Wranglers. She's a good kid in her mid-20's, has a decent job but isn't making too much right out of college. I'd like to help get her a newer rig but don't want to get something that will end up being a bad experience. She doesn't need a 4-door but needs an auto transmission. Any help? Thanks in advance.

If you can locate a; one, or two year old Wrangler Rubicon; it's the best way to go. drove one for 6 years, no problems..highly recommended..farthest thing from a "bad experience" your daughter will be one happy lady..I can assure you..

I had one in my early 20s. The whole thing - lift, bigger tires, soft top, could take the doors off etc...
Was awesome for cruising around the neighborhood etc when the weather is nice. But driving of any real distance especially on the highway was a beating of the highest order. Was noisy as all get out, and had to keep a heavy jacket in there at all times during winter.
Also driving with the top down is fun in theory but a a beating in practice (unless riding around the neighboorhood). Really noisy. Wind blowing things out of your car etc.
Mine was a 99 and for a wrangler was pretty nice.
Maybe a hardtop would be better. I am not sure.
Bottom line. If I could afford a "play car" for tooling around town I would probably get one again.
But never again as my primary mode of transportation.

Jeeps are high center of gravity vehicles and have a small wheel base, even in 2016. Like Matt said. great for just hops around the neghborhood with friends, but driving one full time for distance/freeways is another animal and takes very good driving skills to compensate - especially in Seattle on slick wet roads. Safety ratings on Wranglers are poor for obvious reasons. They are top heavy and light, burn through tire treads very fast and brake like a sled.
I'm sure your daughter is a super good and smart driver but I wouldn't go there. 5 more driving years b4 handling a HCG vehicle imo. I grew up in Seattle and built, drove and lived off road jeeps and trucks.
If she has to have one and ya feel good about it, get the 4x4. Much better grip an traction on turns. Performs much more safely by far.

Two young girls in a Sahara tonight at a 7-11. Asked them about the Jeep and they said A-OK. NOOO I can't go party. Been married 25 years but it was flattering.

My buddy has a 2000-ish wrangler with a 4cyl in it, which is my lone experience riding in one, & it's noisy on the freeway, rough ride (to be expected), & really doesn't have much other room in it (hard to stuff two sets of golf clubs behind the seat). My daughter is not really the outdoors type.....I think she just wants one for the looks, which is fine.....we all like something cool to buzz around in. I just don't want her to get one & then hate it 6 months later. I do like the idea of her having something with 4wd for winter, & she doesn't have a long daily commute but that could change if she gets another job. I think I'll get her out to drive a couple & see if she really likes it or not as her experience with them extends about as far as mine, ie she has ridden in one before.

Just reiterating others feedback. Had one for about 14 years. Solid vehicle, I drove it into the ground. Personal opinion is it is a great secondary car to mess around in or cruise around town but terrible if she has a long commute.

I think 'Search gave some great advice... Safety should be one of your top concerns and they do not handle like an everyday vehicle.
Plus many of 'em ride like a bucket of bolts as others have said. Play or secondary vehicle, particularly for a woman. If anything, might be OK for a tomboy, but I don't think many ladies will like the daily grind on a bucket of bolts , that also handles poorer than they're used to.

I love Jeeps. I bought a brand new one in 2000 and sold it recently and bought a 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited fully loaded. I love it man. Jeeps are awesome.
