2nd of all, a few weeks after I quit, I looked at my bank account and added up all my losses just over 2 months. that enough was a sobering moment.

Here's how I stopped. Been 6 or 7 years already. They only way you'll stop (IMHO) is that something drastic will happen.
For me it took losing my behind on a terrible chase weekend. Not being able to pay it back the following Tuesday, being stressed for a week and a half, avoiding phone calls, and severely affecting several good relationships in the process.
After that it pretty much ended it for me. I never wanted to be in that dark place ever again.
It is a breath of fresh air to enjoy games from a fans perspective. I attend a lot of ballgames of every sport. And I can tell you, I can spot WITHIN MINUTES the guy in the crowd who is losing his a$$ because of how the game is unfolding. (close game, unders being threatened, missed opportunities to put points on the board, etc, etc.)
Each and every time I can sigh with satisfaction and tell myself, "Glad I ain't that guy."
That's what makes me not go back.

Other day I drove by a dad standing beneath a tree that was holding a sign that read, "Lost my job, please help with anything you can you can....thank you."
Seated beside him was his wife and two little girls in there best dresses no more than 6 years old, respectively. My heart rate went from 70- to probably 90 in seconds from both anger and sadness.
I raced into the adjacent grocery store here in my selfish, rich, fat, bloated Range Rover neigborhood and bought 4 loaded turkey sandwiches, a crate of bottled water, box juices and some fruit rolls for the kids and parents. Hauled a*ss back to their spot and gave them the groceries and five 20 dollar bills. I most definitely cannot afford to make gestures like that because of outrageous gambling losses but I didn't give a flying fu*k.
