like the Virginia pick...the OU pick seems a bit pricey...
I am absolutely on the opposite in on your Boise pick...
this game is in Atlanta, which is a quasi home game for Ole Miss...there will be about 65K Ole Miss fans there to less than 5K from Boise. Both teams return 15 starters. Some say Ole Miss will be very competitive in the SEC west, the strongest in college football. In addition, this is Harsin's first year at Boise, (after being gone for 4). He is implementing new Offenses and Defenses. Yes, Boise will be alright and will probably win the MWC, but do you think in week 1, they will have those systems in place, in a hostile environment? Boise is a special story, and 5 to 10 years ago, elite teams took them lightly. But, not any more. I can guarantee you that Ole Miss has been preparing all spring and will prepare all summer for this battle. Freeze is a good coach, and he is in the 3rd year of his system. With Robert Nkemdiche and a Defense filled with elite recruiting talent, they will wreak havoc for Boise on the road. In addition, Boise returns 15 of its top 17 tacklers on D. Now that's depth and experience. Finally, Bo Wallace is a 3 year returning starter QB for Ole Miss. P Steele has this capped at Ole Miss 129 to Boise 120. Yes, on a neutral field that would imply a Boise cover, but if you look deeper, I think you will see a tremendous advantage for Ole Miss in this Matchup. I recommend you look at three sources...P Steele, the Scout.com Boise State Broncos free forum, and the Scout.com Ole Miss Rebels free forum sites.
Again, Boise will be ok with Harsin...I just think (and so do there fans) that the first game may end up being painful to watch for the Bronco faithful...

the angles on the OU La Tech Game that may support your position of a blowout...
Skip Holze is the head coach and former UT DC Manny Diaz is the DC. The Stoops brothers hate anything associated with UT Austin. Even though Diaz got fired from texas after the BYU game, the Stoops Brothers will want to send a statement. The concern that I have for OU is their loss of WR's since last season. And I think they have had some injuries.
Personally, I am targeting week 2 for OU against Tulsa. Granted, there is a look ahead possibility with Tenn on deck, but Tulsa is down now, and over the last 10 years, when OU plays fellow Ok school Tulsa, he makes it a point to cover ATS. I don't think this season will be any different. Stoops wants to send a message to Tulsa and any elite Oklahoma recruits that OU owns Oklahoma...that angle along with the huge talent differential and other factors makes a OU say -24 at Tulsa a more desirable cover than La Tech in week 1...

I like the Virginia pick, not because of UCLA's methodical O, but because of Virginia's D. Steele likes the Wahoo D and I like it as well against an overrated UCLA team at C-Ville...

LB - Washington also destroyed them...and that was with Peterson as coach. I just think with a new coach (even an experienced Boise guy) and new systems on both sides of the ball playing at a hostile venue, they are not going to be hitting on all cylinders in week 1. Like I said before, Boise has defeated teams from the elite conferences when Boise was perceived as somewhat under the radar. Ole Miss will prep for this game like Boise is an elite SEC team (I still need to do more research on Ole Miss fan perception of itself, to gain a perspective. I will only play four picks in week 1, and right now, base on the perceived 10 point spread, Ole Miss is in that top 4. Conventional wisdom would say that the spread would increase as it gets closer to kickoff, but I think there are a good number of Boise backers out there that will keep this spread around 10 and reasonable from my perspective.
If you like, send me a friend request through Covers and we can evaluate each other picks further as we get closer to kickoff. The one thing that I have learned is that your picks have to be fluid. With regard to your picks, between now and kickoff, you will get takes and find out new information that may change your perspective.
In summary,
with you strongly on UVA, I think the UVA D will have enough (along with London being on the hot seat, needs to show something against UCLA, even in a loss), that UVA has a good chance to cover.
against you strongly on Boise State, for the reasons identified above.
somewhat with you on Oklahoma, though I believe OU may come out rusty in week 1...(the spread may be skewed up due to the perceptions from the win over Bama) they will win, but it won't be a dominating performance. It could be a blowout as you say or it could be a solid win, but no cover. No play for me, but I do like OU in week 2 against Tulsa.

LB - I will not touch that SC v. Texas A&M matchup...On paper, from an experience and location standpoint, it seems like a SC cover...But, A&M is loaded with talent including 4 and 5 star talent on that awful and inexperiended D from last year. These Aggies guys are well coached, and eventually it will kick in. The thing about it is Sherman was not a defensive focused coach, so he did get elite talent on the offensive side of the ball, and not so much on D. Sumlin's track record at Houston was the same way. However, SC loses Shaw, and Clowney, and those are big losses. Spurrier and Sumlin are outstanding coaches with great staffs, SC does return a QB that got significant experience, that will give them an advantage.
Honestly, I don't have a feel for this. A&M won't have Manziel to save them if they get behind, but from recruiting standpoint, the SC roster is loaded with overachieving and coached up 3 star players, when A&M has a lot of 4 and 5 star players. Thus advantage A&M from a pure talent perspective...
Honestly, this was one of the first matchups that I thought about, and at the time, I was on SC. Now, I just don't want to go against A&M. If the new Aggie QB is legit, if the D improves, A&M could beat SC straight up. However, if neither happen, this could be a blowout for SC.
No play for me, but good luck to you on your pick. Honestly, I think there will be better options on the board. After week 1, bettors and books will know a lot more about both SC and A&M including what kind of 2014s each team will have...
