#1 Posted: 4/4/2012 1:33:53 PM Looks like Lester wants to open things up a bit this season with Mettenberger under center.

#2 Posted: 4/5/2012 3:25:38 AM I read that Russell Shepard was going pro since Les dissed him in the the BCS Championship. I'm glad he decided to stay.
If Mettenberg is as good as advertised that will open things up. Once defenses spread the field then the Tigers have 5 first class RB's to attack their line of scrimmage.
By this showing LSU probably secures the #1 Ranking going into next year. They have to prove it on the field now. I don't think an opening week #1 has won the championship since USC in '05 |

#4 Posted: 4/6/2012 12:13:03 AM USC will be ranked ahead of them preseason...voters go for what they know, not potential...and they know matt barkley is a #1 draft pick next year and heisman frontrunner. |

#6 Posted: 5/12/2012 3:36:53 AM I was at LSU's spring game and Mettenberger looked good. He did look a little nervous his first series or two but then he settled down and looked sharp. If Les opens it up this year then LSU will be really tough. USC is loaded but has no depth and has already suffered several injuries to some key starters.

#7 Posted: 5/12/2012 8:33:08 AM I am looking for a LSU vs USC BCS Championship game in Miami. 'Bama might sneak in there too, but obviously SC and LSU are two of the best teams this season. |

#9 Posted: 5/13/2012 12:05:37 PM In 2011 LSU played 14 games. Only three times did they score less than 35.
In 2012 they have 4 out of 5 lineman returning, all 5 running backs, and a better QB.
And as always, the few guys LSU lost on defense will be replaced.
During the draft ESPN mentioned no college had ever had 2 cornerbacks go top 5 in consecutive drafts. This year may be #3.
2011 Patrick Peterson 2012 Morris Caliborne 2013 Tyrann "Honey Badger" Mathieu ??? |

As I am a huge fan of LSU, I am also a realist. Honey Badger was exposed in the NC game against Bama. With his lack of size, he doesn't match up well at all against big, physical receivers. Yes he can improve but I don't think he will be drafted that high. I see him making his living as a nickel back and a return man. He makes great plays but from I have seen, he isn't nowhere near the cover corner that either Claiborne or Peterson was. I just hope Mettenberger has got over his sketchy past. From what I hear he loved to party and play around with the girls. Nothing wrong with that but hopefully he has matured and won't get into any trouble.

I'll take that Bet anyday of the week.
Went to see USC spring and everyone is talking how great the offence is. Defence is just as good this year. They were making picks off the #1 player in NFL draft & Heisman fav (Barkley).
They r going to the BCS National Championship and I would be shocked if they lose a game this yr. |

BOL 2 Packer1992, I hope you grab the
I was thinking maybe 1 game loss 4 them. But when I saw their D this year against BARKLEY (Legit Heisman, # 1 NFL Pick) and he couldn't much of anything against them... I'm bettn on undefeated season.
They are very hungry too with this 1st season of bowl ban over.
& I hate to say it too cause I root for the underdog to win.
I hope BOISE wins BCS..Yr of the dog |

Even if they only lost one game in the regular season they will get beat by a team they don't deserve to be playing in a bowl game. Obviously no one learns after all these years of SEC dominance by picking teams out of conference to win it all. |

The way i see it about USC defense is anything better they do this season is a improvement over last year.
12 games they gave up 283 points, with one shut out against the worthless UCLA team some scores could have come in turnovers...etc without the D on the field.
But for what ever the reason is i don't see them having the Tampa defense Lane promoted his dad could build.
2011 season ranked 45th giving up points, avg 23.8 points per game.
To get to a NCG thats got to get better...

I give you the SEC is a great conference. But remember USC's record and they killing they give Arkansas last time they played. Granted it was a while back.
But No one is SEC even remotely has the pro, style high octane offence that USC has.
I am not a USC fan btw. SEC winning BCS is done though. |

Alabama's pro-style offense will likely be every bit as good as USCs.

. . . also, depending on how Mettenberger pans out for LSU, their pro-style offense will be right there at the top too.

I respectfully disgaree with LSU & Alabama offences even being close. Matt Barkley, Marquise Lee, Robert Woods... 3 all Americans and you have George Farmer and 5 star stud that can start for almost any team in the nation fighting for the 3rd receiver spot. Btw: Y are we giving Mettenberger credit before he's even played a game. There's 2 5 star players, QB Cody Kessler, Max Witteck on USC who are just as good if not better.

lol what are you talking about? Alabamas is better and USC's might look like it is good because of the defenses they face, there are 3 defenses in the SEC that would eat up that offense but Kiffin already knows that from experience. |
