In exchange for OF Manuel Margot, SS Javier Guerra, 2B Carlos Asuaje and LHP Logan Allen.
Obviously a huge pickup for the Sawx who intend to move Koji to a setup role to make that a scary 8-9 punch if Koji is healthy.
As for the Padres...
Margot was the Red Sox's #4 prospect and MLB.com's #25 overall prospect who is a 21 year old center fielder. He hasn't shown much power but that is supposed to come along and he will steal bases (39 last year between High-A and Double-A) and only struck out 51 times in 480 PA so he has a good eye and his slash line is .276/.324/.419.
Guerra is a 20 year old top defensive presence at shortstop who was the Red Sox's 6th best prospect and MLB's 67th who hit 15 homers with 68 RBI's in 116 Class-A games last year with a .279/.329/.449 slash. He's a few years away from the majors but has a ton of "promise" to come offensively.
Asuaje is a 24 year old 2nd baseman who is said not to be great in any 1 category but is well rounded. However, at 23, he had an average season at Double-A by hitting .251/.334/.374 with just 8 homers and 61 RBIs in 131 games so we'll see if he ends up having an impact.
Allen is an 18 year old lefty who was ranked as the Sox's 13th best prospect as he was drafted in this year's draft in the 8th round and only pitched in 24.5 innings in the Gulf Coast League and Low-A but had a 1.11 ERA and 0.78 WHIP with a remarkable 26/1 K/BB ratio. He won't be making an impact anytime soon but is said to be polished for his age with a good repertoire.
As a Yankee fan...I hope the Red Sox's rotation sucks so that we don't have to see him too often.

A good deal for the Red Sox Sparky as Kimbrel is signed thru 2017 with a club option for 2018. Bullpen was a glaring problem this winter and if Koji can stay healthy this goes a long way in straightening out the Pen.
All of these four prospect chips dealt by the Red Sox were blocked by better players. Margot was not going anywhere with both Betts and Bradley Jr in CF. Guerra certainly wasn't going to unseat Bogaerts at SS. Asuaje is blocked by Pedroia and utility specialist Brock Holt.
Allen is the only prospect I'd worry about. 18 year old poised Lefty's don't grow on trees. But the Sox are stacked with three good Lefty Starters in Miley, Rodriguez, and Owens and the natives are restless in Beantown so the future is now.
Look for the Red Sox to spend on a FA Starting pitcher. Dombrowski is rumored to favor Zack Greinke and the Red Sox have the cash to make that happen.

If money is the prime objective Greinke could find himself in beantown, but career wise they will have to offer over and above what he can get in warm weather locales and pitcher's parks. These guys watch everything and a National League, warm weather, pitcher's park is a big attraction. I think the Giants have the best shot, but who knows? With their bottomless bank account the Dodgers may overwhelm everyone as they would certainly like to keep one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball. Good luck Goose.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

They may have the cash for Greinke but lets not forget that he has anxiety issues and seemed incredibly comfortable in LA who also has the money to spend but without the scrutiny that comes with the Beantown media.
They really do need an Ace and for Buchholz to be consistent. I liked Porcello but how you guys paid him what you did was astonishing no matter what age he was.
I like the Sox's future with Rodriguez and Owens in that rotation. Like you said, poised lefties don't grow on trees and you have 3 that have a ton of promise and could possibly get another if they want Price.
