Thank you for your question.
Firstly I will say that I do respect those that are Vegetarian, and at some point in the future I am intending to write a thread on How to become vegetarian, the health benefits, and general guidelines on eating healthy and balanced vegetarian meals.
My personal view is that we look at evolution and our ancestors.
Carnivores only eat meat for examlpe Tigers lions, their dentition (teeth) have evolved to eat meat, very large canines.
Herbivores cattle sheep etc, have dentition of molars not canines, the molars crush and grind grass etc vt side to side motion, as opposed to the Tigers up and down canine movement.
Humans are omnivores they have both canines and molars, the jaw moves up and down and side to side. So by evolution, genes and DNA we are built to eat both meat and vegitation.
Now the issue is quantity of meat. Our ancestors, cave men, could only eat meat if they made a kill. With primitive tools weapons making a kill was rare, maybe once a week and therefore could never eat a large amount of meat in a life time.Maybe that is where our traditional Sunday lunch evolved from. Now modern man in affluent areas of the world can eat meat every day if he wanted to. So that is where the problem is, too much red meat.
The problem with red meat is the saturated fat content, which is bad for our arteries. So if we are careful with the quantities we eat, and if we grill in stead of fry as in the recipe the bacon is grilled, then we are ok. Also the very very small risk of certain cancers such as bladder cancers associated with red meat, are also reduced risk if we eat the red meat in moderation.
So to answer your question yes bacon is healthy if grilled and eaten once or twice per week as part of a balanced diet.

#4 Posted: 8/31/2010 1:01:50 PM I just asked of bacon is healthy, I didn't ask for the abridged history of the modern mammal.
Anyway, is bacon red meat? I thought the pig was the other white meat? Please answer in 25 words or less.

Hi I would just like to mention, that 5 years ago I travelled together with my daughter to Iceland. We had a fantastic time, your Country is beautiful and the people so warm and friendly. The spars and the geysers. My daughter has on her bedroom shelf, a small piece of volcanic rock , a constant reminder of the enjoyable time spent in Iceland. Im just watching Ultimate Big Brother and then to bed, so good night from UK to Iceland. Take care
