Krav maga

The low-down: This martial art developed by the Israeli military is based around hand-to-hand combat. The principles are about self-defence – never attacking – with the emphasis on speed, endurance, strength and coordination. Bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats and crunches build strong arms, shoulders, back, abdominals and legs, while grappling strengthens the heart and lungs and burns calories. 

Calories burned: 400-600 per hour.

Weight loss: 4/10

Muscle building: 4/10

Strength building: 6/10

Toning: 5/10
