I have posted in other forums, but first time here. I was glad to come across this one a few weeks ago because there just aren't that many people following the WNBA. Very happy to see other female basketball junkies like myself! I have been following along with some of the posts, but decided to stay away from posting myself until now because I am getting my behind kicked right now. Had another beautiful NBA postseason, took a few weeks off, and then got serious with the ladies. Damn, I wish I would have just stayed away, but capping is forever in my blood! Lol! I have accumulated a brutal 6-16 record (bunch of 0.5-2 point losses, but a loss is a loss) thus far! Ouch! The worst gamblers in the world couldn't even try to lose 73% of the time!!! I'm looking to save face and finish out the regular season strong, and it starts with this play. I noticed that Wagers already wrote about this one, but I will throw in a few words as well.
I have been waiting for this one for a couple weeks now. I have been following the WNBA for 12 years now and have never seen a run like the Mercury are having. But, at the same time, these teams are all average at best or below average, outside of the Lynx and Dream (the Sky obviously struggled for most of the season without EDD and would have been much better with her in the lineup). Phoenix is stacked with great players all over the court and should win the title, but I don't think it will necessarily be easy for the Mercury to just fly right by the Lynx (as long as they are healthy). It's too bad these two won't get the opportunity to play a 5 game series. Minnesota appears to be healthy and ready to finish out the regular season strong. The Mercury are currently enjoying an amazing and ridiculous 11 game ATS win streak, which just doesn't happen in pro basketball. That tells me that the oddsmakers have failed to adjust the line accordingly on Mercury games, but props to those of you who took advantage and rode out the streak. I, unfortunately, was not one of them, but only went against them twice during this streak (one of which included a 0.5 point loss with the Sky after Chicago was winning almost the entire game!).
Revenge situations with these two teams have not fared well this season (4-10-1 ATS in Mercury games and 2-13 in Lynx games), but that's because they are both taking care of all their opponents ATS that are playing for revenge (Phoenix opponents are 2-10 ATS and Minnesota opponents are 2-9 ATS). I do understand that Minnesota is 0-4 ATS when playing for revenge this season, but 2 of those 4 were against the Storm (man, that team is a mess right now) and 1 against the Mercury. I really like Minnesota in this double revenge spot at home, where they have been dynamite the past few seasons, losing only five total times (including playoffs) dating back to the start of the 2012 season. The line opened at Minnesota -2 and now I get them at +1, with action pouring in on the Mercury. I think that's a bargain. The streak has to stop somewhere, and it's going to be tonight with a Lynx team that is locked and loaded. As Wagers stated and I agree, the pressure is all on the Mercury in this one, and I believe Minnesota takes it to them. Lynx 87-76.
Wagers, hopefully I didn't just curse your 20 bagger with my pathetic 6-16 record.

Uh-oh, Wagers is backing Minny big time today. I just do not see this as a slam dunk case. A lot will depend on the refereeing. DT is indeed a bit of a scapegoat, and Minny will probably get a few calls today. But Mercs' defensive prowess is something that people overlook a lot, given how dazzling their offense usually is. I am not betting against Wagerman on the overs, but I am probably not going to tail him on a 20-bag scale, if at all. And you know me, I usually love them overs. One thing that might help Minny a lot is their bench. Dantas vs Misty Bass ? Pleeease.

I also have a play in the Liberty-Sky matchup. We have two teams here that have headed in different directions over the past month or so. I'm sure some of New York's success has been attributed to the fact that they have played more home games in that span, where it has played fairly well, posting an 8-5 SU record. And we all know that Chicago's collapse has been attributed to the loss of EDD for most of the season. Yes, she is supposed to return tonight (but who knows with this league), but I wouldn't expect her to have a huge impact on this game.
The Liberty are 8-4 SU & 7-5 ATS in their last 12 games, including 2-2 SU & ATS on the road (2-1 SU & ATS in their last three roadies). I consider that 2-2 a success after losing 8 straight road games (and 7 straight ATS). This nice run the Liberty are on includes big wins against Atlanta (twice), Minnesota, Los Angeles on the road, and a surging Washington team the other night in OT. The Sky have owned the Liberty so far this season, winning all three meetings, but that all occurred in the first part of the season before this nice run by New York.
The Sky are 5-15 SU & 6-14 ATS in their last 20 games, including 2-8 SU & 3-7 ATS in their last 10. It has surely been a struggle for this team without their leading scorer for most of the season. It has changed the entire dynamic of this squad, and the season is just not long enough (not enough games) to right the ship. Of course, your coach has something to do with that as well! But, in the end, you can only do so much when you are missing your top scorer (and probably best player). Chicago is also a poor 1-5 SU & ATS as a home favorite since the beginning of June (the lone win came against the Liberty as a short favorite back in mid-June).
I expect the Liberty to take care of business and continue their winning ways in this triple revenge spot against the Sky. Liberty 75-71.

This should be an AUSSIE APPRECIATION THREAD...always upbeat, supportive and able to always keep an open mind...
Cheers to AUSSIE!
Thanks Blocks for the kind words. Gotta stay upbeat and positive in this crazy world we all live in. You never know when your days on earth are over especially with all the tragedies happening right now in the world our time is limited.
Im on Mercury +1 and I know others are on the Lynx. Cannot wait for this game to start. It is going to be the pinnacle of WNBA. Last season the Lynx owned the WNBA and not many teams could compete with them. This year is completely different and we have 2 fantastic teams evenly matched. Win or lose, I will be happy to watch this game as a spectator and a fan of the WNBA.

I'm done trying to pick a side here. I'll just take the first +5.5 that's available in play and enjoy the show. Watch them somehow make it a one possession game with under a minute to play.

We have a Dream squad that has performed slightly below average on the road, posting a 5-6 SU & 4-7 ATS record. Atlanta is also a poor 3-6 ATS as a road favorite (and two of those covers came against the Fever; the road team in this series won all five matchups this year). The Dream have also been struggling as of late, losing 4 of 5, and have posted a 0-4-1 ATS record the last 5 times out as a favorite. On the other hand, the Shock have played decent in the same time span, winning 3 of 5, posting a 4-0-1 ATS record. Tulsa is also 4-2 ATS as a home dog and 11-6-2 ATS as a dog in all games this season.
