To be fair, a lot of straight guys have scandalous pictures of scantily clad women for their avatars.

My guess is Sabermaths is a guy male doing the same thing - just to his taste in men.

Maybe he finds your avatar equally disturbing?  I don't know, I'm just playing devils advocate.  Personally, his avatar doesn't bother me because it's not racist or offensive in any way.  It's just a little person.

this was my though process for choosing my avatar picture:

1. probably too boring choosing a sport image

2. most have scandalous pictures of scantily clad women for their avatars so this is acceptable. good to know.

3. covers default avatar characters are blah.

4. do not post a picture of a guy in underwear.

5. do not post anything racial.

6. do not post a photo of myself or family.

7. go with step 2.
