Reason for people starving: lack of funds to purchase food
Large reason for lack of funds: American jobs moving overseas
D_Unit solution: Ship those american NASA jobs, technological innovations which create new jobs and industries, not to mention losing thousands of the sharpest minds, to europe and china....in order to decrease the number of starving people in the US...
its highly likely that if NASA was defunded the entire budget would be invested in another bomb to drop on some starving children in another country. win-win right?
And just to be clear: Americans aren't the only ones footing the bill for the mission: Spain is providing atmospheric pressure, temp, humidity, winds & UV readings for the rover. Russia has provided an instrument to measure subsurface hydrogen.
But its more than just technological innovation, its more than just a robot digging in sand on mars; its nations working together in peace, and thats more valuable than almost anything to the survival of the human species
but yeah who wants that b/c it doesn't impact me RIGHT NOW.
but there is a large group of people that would prefer funding for bombs rather then scientific research/progress/innovation...
I think it says a lot in the 20th century he had a shuttle program that got us to and from the space station...
but "progress" in the 21st century is defined by cutting that program that we dont even have a shuttle program anymore... if we want to go to the space station we need to thumb a ride from the other countries and hope they let us ride shotgun...
