#4 Posted: 5/1/2012 12:54:10 PM I sense the tide is turning on this story and unless Obama drops it quickly, it will redound in Romney's favor. No one likes a braggart - especially one who fails to give proper credit to the true heroes in this story while making it appear that one's opponent has less courage.
It is a shabby, ugly political ploy and blowing up in Obama's face would be a deserving outcome.

He tweeted a link to a picture. That article says in quotes"I killed Bin Laden a year ago today". Can't find those words anywhere on his twitter, unless it's since been deleted?
So he can't simply tweet a link to a picture without it being an affront? Really?

#7 Posted: 5/1/2012 2:47:10 PM From the WSJ:
A recently disclosed memorandum from then-CIA Director Leon Panetta shows that the president's celebrated derring-do in authorizing the operation included a responsibility-escape clause: "The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven's hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out."
Which is to say, if the mission went wrong, the fault would be Adm. McRaven's, not the president's.

Pointing out that Obama is pathetic really doesn't do him justice here.

Today, Mitt Romney released the following statement on the anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden:
“Today marks the one year anniversary of the mission that brought Osama bin Laden to justice. That mission was the culmination of nearly a decade of hard work and sacrifice by our men and women in the military and intelligence communities. I commend all those who planned and conducted the bin Laden raid, and I applaud President Obama for giving the go ahead for the mission. Let us never forget the thousands of innocents who perished on September 11, 2001, or the brave servicemen and women who have given their lives to defeat those who would do harm to our country. They, and their families, are forever in our thoughts and prayers.” |

I don't see how you went from that statement to that conclusion. Did you really want Obama to pre-decide or direct every little operational aspect? If something major changed, then they would go back to the Prez for a decision. Looks perfectly normal and appropriate to me.

Based on: "The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President."
What constitutes a change in the "risk profile"? Any change in conditions on the ground? A change in location? Further, why is such a statement even needed?
It seems pretty clear Depeche.
Also note that Obama is pretending this was some brave decision.
It is absurd and unseemly for him to continue to pretend this was some sort profile in courage.

I would interpret that just the opposite as you. If he had not said that, then he'd have an out if something went wrong - that is, well, I wasn't made award of the risks and didn't sign on for that. By saying this, he's saying he wants to remain on the hook and if anything changes then he wants to be on the hook if he gives further approval. As for what constitutes a change in the risk profile, obviously we are not privvy the risk profile that was presented and agreed upon, so you couldn't possibly know, and obviously that would not be public. I'm sure it was as well defined as possible.
Again, just another ridiculous reach who want to see everything Obama could possibly do in a negative light. The directive seemed perfectly appropriate.

America knows who deserves the credit for killing Osama Bin Laden - United States Navy SEALs and the American intelligence community. |

#18 Posted: 5/2/2012 4:01:40 AM Obama played you like a fiddle...
He did not talk about OBL thing for a long time... he basically waited till the anniversary for political reasons... by not talking about it he did not want people to get tired of it... and then makes this surprise appearance basically commanding the world and all "obamabots" to talk about, think about and focus on this... and the mindless followers are obeying their masters commands...
look at all the links and posts about this... obviously people are doing exactly want obama has dictated... and only further cementing the association of obama and OBL...
OBL just busted Romney's lip and he is reeling... Romney will gather himself and punch back as the election gets closer... But things have changed in that Obama is a better politician then his presidential ability... And historically the GOP have been far superior at the politics game so they are not used to getting taken behind the woodshed like this...
“It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.” - Mitt Romney

It's not like he dressed up in a halloween outfit and stood on an aircraft carrier claiming victory 8 years before the war was over. |
