As long as you have no national boxing commission with full oversight and control, corruption at the highest and lowest levels will exist easily. The main monster and culprit is.... the FANS! As long as they believe the BS on HBO 24/7 and constant advertising to increase a fights PPV revenue, and people are stupid enough to keep paying, this is what you will get.
Modern day athletes are business men and marketers more than athletes.
I only watch a few professional sports anymore, but as a kid I remember NBA teams played a full game and not just the last two minutes. I remember the days when NFL coaches weren't even judged by media or staffing at the very minimal until after their entire first year, but now just over 1/3 of the season passes by and the team is off to a bad start of 2-4 are already in the media with the coach considered in the HOT seat and very soon to be on the chopping block. At least college athletics has priorities and must perform all year to be considered as a possible professional.
Boxing has gotten to be the ultimate joke and people buy these $59.99 PPV events that are not close to competitive and wouldn't even make the Tuesday Night Fights fight card two decades prior.
BACK TO FLOYD... he has followed the modern day self-marketing athlete and apparently he has pulled it off as he is ranking #1 in revenues. If these fighters were not millionaires, and had a contract fight for $3 million with winner take all, you would see fights. As a extra incentive, if a fighter won by knockout they would earn $5 million, you would see some serious old school fight to death matches. I said $4 million then to $6 million as you would get to much fighter collusion to cheat so that they could split the shares. Not to lose the context regarding Floyd, but you have to consider motives and a persons goals. Apparently Floyd has a clear-cut motive, get paid with little risk and keep it flowing as long as he can.
Floyd a coward? No. His motives are different. Take NFL running backs and use Walter Payton as the role model who always hit corner backs and didn't run out of bounce. Now star NFL running backs have salaries so high that they are told to run out of bounce and avoid getting hurt as the risk vs reward is not worth it. So in comparison, you would be calling 90% of NFL RB's of today cowards!
Floyd has the skills and IQ to beat everyone, and it is upsetting to see such skills wasted on nothing more than a sparring match for $100 million + >>>

Hey Q1 ...I thought about what you said alot of times. The last two weekends all of them fights and NOT ONE PICK!!! All of them issues with everyone on here. I really think the man has mental problems. |
