Predators 3, Lightning 2: Patric Hornqvist knocked in a rebound during a power play with 6:04 left in the third period to snap a tie and Nashville held on to defeat visiting Tampa Bay.

Matt Cullen and defenseman Roman Josi also scored man-advantage goals in the second period as the Predators converted three power-play chances for the first time this season. Captain Shea Weber added a pair of assists and Carter Hutton improved to 7-2-2 in his last 11 decisions after turning aside 14 shots.

Captain Martin St. Louis scored both goals for Tampa Bay, which managed only seven shots over the final two periods and successfully killed only one of four penalties. Ben Bishop made 26 saves for the Lightning, who fell to 2-5-0 in their last seven contests.

Ondrej Palat jumped on a turnover and whipped a backhand shot off the left post before St. Louis was in the right place to sweep it home 5:26 into the game. St. Louis doubled the lead on the power play 3:47 later, when his shot from right faceoff circle squirted through Hutton’s glove and fell under him.

Cullen snapped a 29-game goal-scoring drought when he knocked home defenseman Ryan Ellis’ diagonal pass at 12:05 of the second session. Nashville tied the game just 71 seconds later as Josi walked in from the left point and blasted a shot that beat Bishop high to the glove side.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lightning C Valtteri Filppula, the team’s second-leading scorer, practiced Wednesday but was held out of the lineup as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. … Nashville had a 32-23 edge in the faceoff circles. … Weber played 28:18 and Josi logged 27:09 of ice time for the Predators.
