Kings 3, Canucks 1: Jeff Carter snapped a tie with 7:55 left in the third period and added an empty-net goal as host Los Angeles halted its five-game losing streak in Jonathan Quick's return from injury.

Captain Dustin Brown scored his second goal in 13 games and Quick stopped 27 shots in his first appearance since Nov. 12 for the Kings, who avoided their first six-game slide since dropping eight in a row from Dec. 12-26, 2007. Quick, who was named to the United States Olympic team on Wednesday, missed 24 games with a groin injury.

Fellow U.S. Olympian Ryan Kesler ended his 10-game goal-scoring drought and Roberto Luongo made 46 saves as he also returned from injury for the Canucks, who allowed a season-high 49 shots in losing their third straight game (0-2-1). Luongo sat out Vancouver's previous three contests with a lower-body

Kesler opened the scoring during a power play with 7:33 remaining in the first period. The veteran one-timed Daniel Sedin's cross-slot pass from the left faceoff circle past Quick for his 16th goal of the season.

The tally stood until 1:07 of the third, when Brown buried the rebound of Justin Williams' shot while alone on the doorstep. Carter put the Kings in front 11 minutes later, ripping a shot past Luongo from the slot after being set up by Dwight King, who had beaten Vancouver defenseman Jason Garrison to a loose puck along the right-wing boards.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carter's two-goal performance was his second of the season. He also scored twice on Oct. 9 against Ottawa. ... The Kings have allowed fewer than four goals in five of their last six contests, while the Canucks have scored fewer than three in six of their last seven. ... Los Angeles traded LW Daniel Carcillo to the New York Rangers for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2014. Carcillo recorded one goal, one assist and a team-leading 57 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Kings.
