Predators 3, Sharks 2: Victor Stalberg recorded a goal and an assist while Carter Hutton made 36 saves as host Nashville skated to its third straight victory.

Eric Nystrom and defenseman Roman Josi also scored for the Predators, who have won the first two contests of their three-game homestand. Hutton has stopped 97-of-101 shots in posting three consecutive wins.

Blue-liner Dan Boyle and Patrick Marleau each netted a goal and set up another for San Jose, which fell to 1-4-1 in its last six contests. Antti Niemi finished with 20 saves.

The Predators took a 1-0 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the first period. Defenseman Victor Bartley unleashed a shot from above the left faceoff circle that caromed off the skate of Nystrom and past Niemi.

Nashville capitalized on a power-play chance late in the middle session to double its advantage. Craig Smith made a pass from behind the net to Josi, who fired the puck past Niemi from the top of the slot for his second goal.

The Sharks finally got on the board at 7:28 of the third, halving the deficit. Defenseman Matt Irwin grabbed the puck in the right circle and skated to the left point before firing a shot that Boyle deflected between Hutton's pads.

Stalberg added insurance with 2:39 remaining, racing down the left wing on a 2-on-1 rush and beating Niemi from the top of the faceoff circle. The goal was a much-needed one as Marleau redirected a pass from Boyle past Hutton with 55 seconds to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marleau's goal was his 15th of the season, tying him with rookie C Tomas Hertl for the team lead. ... Sharks C Joe Thornton registered his 817th career assist on Marleau's tally. The captain moved ahead of Michel Goulet for sole possession of 49th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,153 points. ... Marleau recorded a game-high eight shots on goal.
