Recap

Bruins 4, Penguins 3 (OT): Defenseman Torey Krug scored 34 seconds into overtime as host Boston overcame Sidney Crosby's goal with three-tenths of a second remaining in regulation to defeat Pittsburgh for the first time in eight regular-season meetings.

With the Penguins pressing for the tying goal as the clock wound down in the third period, Crosby slapped home Chris Kunitz's backhanded bid from the slot to stun the TD Garden faithful. Krug sent the crowd into a frenzy shortly thereafter as his blast from the left faceoff dot sailed over the left shoulder of Marc-Andre Fleury (20 saves) for his seventh goal of the season.

Loui Eriksson collected a goal and two assists and captain Zdeno Chara and Reilly Smith also scored for the Bruins, who improved to 8-1-1 in their last 10 overall and 7-0-2 at home. Carl Soderberg notched two assists and Tuukka Rask turned aside 28 shots in the victory.

James Neal recorded a two-goal performance in his second straight contest for the Penguins, who saw last season end at TD Garden - courtesy of Boston's four-game sweep in the Eastern Conference final. Jussi Jokinen set up both tallies and NHL First Star of the Week Evgeni Malkin notched his NHL-leading 23rd assist.

With the game tied at 2-2, Chara wristed a shot from the point that Crosby inadvertently deflected over the left shoulder of Fleury at 14:45 of the third period. The tally was Chara's fifth of the season and first at even-strength.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After the Bruins scored 3:16 apart in the first period, Neal answered 37 seconds into the second after one-timing Jokinen's pass from the the slot inside the left post. Neal was denied by the crossbar with 4:13 remaining in the session before his blast from the left circle forged a 2-2 tie with 8:51 remaining in the third. ... Pittsburgh won the teams' initial meeting with a 3-2 triumph on Oct. 30. Boston hosts the final contest between the two on Dec. 7. ... New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman, who caught two touchdown passes in Sunday night's win over the Denver Broncos, was in attendance at TD Garden and received a loud ovation upon being shown on the scoreboard.
