Kings 2, Oilers 1 (SO): Anze Kopitar scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout as host Los Angeles continued its mastery of Edmonton.
Mike Richards tallied in regulation and Jonathan Quick made 17 saves for the Kings, who completed a 3-1-0 homestand and improved to 12-1-4 in their last 17 overall meetings with the Oilers.
Nail Yakupov scored his first goal of the season and Richard Bachman turned aside 47 shots for Edmonton, which has posted just one regulation victory in its last 14 visits to Los Angeles.
Richards and Edmonton's Jordan Eberle converted in the first round of the shootout, but neither team was able to score on its second opportunity. Kopitar beat Bachman to the stick side to give the Kings the edge, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' shot went wide to end the contest.
After a scoreless first period, Yakupov grabbed the rebound of defenseman Anton Belov's one-timer from the blue line and beat Quick from low in the right faceoff circle for a power-play goal at 4:12 of the second. Los Angeles answered with 3:02 remaining in the session, when Richards corralled a rebound in the low slot and moved to his left to fire the puck past a screened Bachman.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Richards had a second goal disallowed with just over six minutes remaining in the third period as Kings RW Matt Frattin was pushed into Bachman before the shot was taken. ...
