Avalanche 3, Predators 1: PA Parenteau scored a pair of goals and Patrick Bordeleau recorded a rare tally as host Colorado improved to 2-0-0 under new coach Patrick Roy.
First overall draft pick Nathan MacKinnon set up Parenteau's first goal for his third assist of the season and Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves for the Avalanche, who went 0-for-5 on the power play.
Paul Gaustad tallied and Pekka Rinne turned aside 33 shots for the Predators, who fell to 5-16-5 on the road since the start of last season.
Colorado opened the scoring with 70 seconds remaining in the first period, as Parenteau grabbed the rebound of Jamie McGinn's high-slot shot and buried it from the right side of the crease. Bordeleau doubled the lead at 7:54 of the second, deflecting defenseman Nate Guenin's shot from the right point past Rinne for his third career goal.
The Predators halved the deficit with 5:50 left in the session, when Gaustad received a backhand pass from Mike Fisher and fired the puck under the crossbar from the low slot. But Parenteau sealed the win by scoring into an empty net with 1:12 to play in the third.
