Rangers 6, Penguins 1: Ryane Clowe collected two goals and an assist and fellow newcomer Derick Brassard matched Brian Boyle by scoring a goal and setting up three others as host New York moved into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
John Moore recorded a goal in his first game with the Rangers after being acquired with Brassard from Columbus for struggling Marian Gaborik. Fellow defenseman Ryan McDonagh also scored and Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 26 shots for New York, which holds the edge over New Jersey and the Islanders based on wins (18) and games played (36), respectively.
After being shut out in their last two meetings with Pittsburgh, the Rangers got the early jump on Boyle's deflection at 10:01 of the first period and McDonagh's snap shot from the slot just 2:18 later.
Clowe, who was acquired from San Jose on Tuesday, scored two minutes later after taking advantage of a turnover and backhanding the puck past Marc-Andre Fleury (33 saves).
Brassard put the game out of reach 1:53 into the second after he elevated his backhander over the glove of Fleury. Brassard picked up his second assist on Clowe's second goal at 11:52 of the period.
GAME NOTEBOOK: RW Pascal Dupuis scored at 2:27 of the second period for the Penguins, who have dropped two in a row following a 15-game win streak. ...
