Patrice Bergeron tied the game midway through the third period and scored the decisive goal in the shootout as Boston earned a split of a home-and-home set against visiting Toronto.

Milan Lucic also tallied in regulation and Tuukka Rask made 23 saves for the Bruins, who moved into a tie for first place in the Northeast Division with the Montreal Canadiens.

Joffrey Lupul and Nikolai Kulemin scored while James Reimer turned aside 27 shots for the Maple Leafs. Kulemin had a chance to keep things going in the shootout but was denied on his attempted wrist shot in the third round to end it.

Lupul, who was returning from a two-game suspension, got things started for Toronto with a power-play goal at 2:04 of the second period. The Maple Leafs made it a 2-0 advantage just under six minutes later, when Nazem Kadri pushed the puck ahead to Kulemin, who got behind the defense and beat Rask high to the glove side.

Lucic ended a scoring drought of over a month to get the Bruins on the board at 9:49 of the second and Bergeron knotted it at 2-2 with 9:24 left in the third. Rookie defenseman Dougie Hamilton sent a pass in front to Bergeron, who beat Reimer with a backhand shot.
