Penguins 2, Capitals 1: Defenseman Matt Niskanen scored to snap a tie with 8:02 remaining in the third period and Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 28 shots as Pittsburgh skated to its 10th consecutive victory overall and eighth straight at Consol Energy Center.

Defenseman Paul Martin added a power-play goal and captain Sidney Crosby collected two assists for his 200th career multi-point contest.

Captain Alex Ovechkin scored in the second straight game and Mike Ribeiro secured his team-leading 22nd assist. Braden Holtby finished with 34 saves for the Capitals, who fell for the fifth time in seven games.

After the teams traded power-play goals in the second period, Niskanen netted the eventual game-winner midway through the third. Matt Cooke exited the penalty box after serving a four-minute penalty and fed Niskanen, who fired a wrist shot in the slot past Holtby for his fourth goal.

Ovechkin scored his team-leading 12th goal at 8:14 of the second period after cleaning up Troy Brouwer's shot which caromed off Niskanen. Martin answered nearly three minutes later after he accepted Crosby's feed at the point. The defenseman unleashed a blast which beat a screened Holtby for his sixth goal.
