Recap
Wild 2, Flames 1 (SO): Captain Mikko Koivu scored the shootout winner in his 500th career game as Minnesota earned its first road win of the season.
Zach Parise also scored in the shootout and Kyle Brodziak tallied in regulation for Minnesota, which allowed 15 goals while going 0-3-1 in its first four road games. Niklas Backstrom made 23 saves before stopping two of three in the shootout.
Jiri Hudler scored in regulation and also netted the lone shootout goal for the Flames, who fell to 1-3-2 at home on the season. Leland Irving stopped 23 shots after allowing five goals in a loss to Vancouver on Friday but couldn’t handle dekes by Koivu and Parise in the shootout.
The Wild opened the scoring late in the second period as Devin Setoguchi grabbed a loose puck in the slot and fed Brodziak, who deked around Irving for his first goal of the season. Hudler tied the game 1:28 into the third, electing to shoot the puck between Backstrom’s pads after appearing as if he would pass it during a 2-on-1.
Calgary's Alex Tanguay took a tripping penalty with 5:45 remaining in regulation, but Minnesota failed to capitalize and finished 0-for-4 with the man advantage. The Flames were 0-for-2.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Wild are 2-for-21 on the power play in their last seven games. … Calgary claimed G Joey MacDonald off waivers from Detroit on Monday. … Setoguchi has points in each of his last two games after recording just two assists in the first 10 contests.
