Alexander Semin added a goal - the 200th of his career - and two assists and Tim Wallace, Jeff Skinner and Eric Staal also scored for the Hurricanes, who are 3-0-1 in their last four games.

Matt Moulson scored two power-play goals while Frans Nielsen and John Tavares also scored with the man advantage as New York suffered its fifth straight loss.

The Islanders led 3-2 after two periods but Semin grabbed a loose puck early in the third and fired a quick pass into the crease to Tlusty, who tapped it past Rick DiPietro to knot it 3-3. The Hurricanes caught a break 5:03 later, when Semin tried to make another centering past to Tlusty but instead shot the puck off New York defenseman Travis Hamonic’s back and past DiPietro for the go-ahead score.

Jay Harrison set up the Hurricanes’ third goal of the third period when he sent a wrist shot into the slot that Tlusty redirected between his legs and off Staal’s skate into the net. The Islanders’ outstanding power play helped cut it to 5-4, when Moulson deflected Visnovsky's blast from the right circle past Ward, but Tlusty added the empty-netter to put it away.
