: Ryan Callahan got it started with an early goal and Henrik Lundqvist brought it home with 30 saves as New York jumped out to a big lead and held off visiting Ottawa to take Game 1.

Marian Gaborik, Brian Boyle and Brad Richards each added a goal and Artem Anisimov recorded a pair of assists for the top-seeded Rangers, who had dropped three of four to the Senators in the regular season.

Callahan grabbed a rebound with his back to the goal on left side of the crease and spun to the inside, wristing a nifty goal past Ottawa netminder Craig Anderson to open the scoring with 7:59 left in the first.

Gaborik scored unassisted with 3:36 left in the second. The All-Star stole the puck on a turnover on the left side and skated toward the slot, slowing behind the defense to fake out Anderson and sending it between the pads to make it 2-0.

Boyle sent New York into the dressing room in even better position, when he grabbed a long bouncing rebound in the slot and snapped it high over the right shoulder of Anderson and just under the crossbar with 54 seconds left in the second.

Richards made it 4-0 early in the third before the Senators attempted a comeback, getting tallies from Daniel Alfredsson and Erik Condra in the back half of the period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Rangers are playing as the top seed for the first time since 1993-94, when they won the Stanley Cup. … Anderson entered Thursday undefeated in six career starts at Madison Square Garden. … Condra, 25, scored in his first career playoff game.
