Recap

KINGS 5, PREDATORS 4: Justin Williams scored twice as visiting Los Angeles moved into a tie for eighth place in the Western Conference.

The Kings, who rank 29th in scoring, netted more than four goals for the first time since Jan. 9. Los Angeles is tied for the final playoff spot with San Jose and Colorado.

Williams opened the scoring at 6:16 of the first period, banking a centering attempt off Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne. He netted his second goal only 12 seconds after Predators winger Patric Hornqvist tied the score at 1-1, banging home a bouncing puck with 1:07 left in the opening frame.

Nashville lost at home for only the third time in its last 13 games and lost for the sixth time in its last eight meetings with the Kings.

The teams would trade goals over a five-minute span in the second period, with Nashville’s Martin Erat tying the score at 2-2 before Kings defenseman Drew Doughty and Predators winger Sergei Kostitsyn traded unassisted goals less than two minutes apart.

Matt Green and Trevor Lewis struck for Los Angeles in the first three minutes of the third period, chasing Rinne.

Hornqvist pulled the Predators to within one with his second goal at 5:18 of the third period when the puck inadvertently went off his skate and past Jonathan Quick on a breakaway.

Quick made 22 saves and picked up his first win over the Predators in six career starts.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Rinne failed to set the franchise record with his 37th win. … The Kings were 3 for 3 on the penalty kill and have extinguished 18 consecutive power plays. … Los Angeles has scored more than four goals only five times this season.
