Paul Gaustad collected a goal and an assist and Ryan Miller made 24 saves as the Buffalo Sabres won their end of a home-and-home series with the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 on Friday.
Buffalo pulled ahead by the final margin at 14:12 of the middle frame when Thomas Vanek threaded a pass from the corner through both Toronto defensemen to Jason Pominville at the side of the net, who buried his 15th of the season.
The Sabres, who won for just the second time in their last eight games, snapped the Leafs four game winning streak. The Leafs also lost their fourth consecutive road game.
Buffalo’s Matt Ellis scored his third and Gaustad netted his fourth in the first four minutes of the game as the Sabres found the back of the net on two of their first three shots. Patrick Kaleta assisted on both goals.
Mikhail Grabovski scored his 14th goal of the season at 14:06 of the first when he buried a rebound off the back boards. Joey Crabb tied the game 2-2 with his seventh of the campaign at 16:52 after a Buffalo turnover in the slot.
