Rookie Sean Couturier scored to snap a tie early in the third period and Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 35 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers continued their mastery of the Carolina Hurricanes with a 2-1 road triumph on Tuesday.
Fellow first-year player Brayden Schenn netted his second goal of the campaign for Philadelphia, which improved to 18-3-3 in its last 24 against Carolina - including 10-1-1 in the Tar Heel State. The Flyers have won three of the four meetings between the teams this season.
With the score tied at 1-1, Couturier skated in and blasted a rocket past Cam Ward for his seventh goal of the season and second in as many games. Couturier's tally came 3:23 into the period, and Bobrovsky held the fort to improve to 9-3-1 on the season.
After scoring his first career goal in the Winter Classic, Schenn put the Flyers in front at 4:20 of the second period. Wayne Simmonds' backhander was denied by Ward, but Schenn raced in and converted the rebound.
Called up from Charlotte of the American Hockey League prior to the contest, Jerome Samson drew an interference penalty on Philadelphia blue-liner Kimmo Timonen midway into the second period.  On the ensuing power play, rookie defenseman Justin Faulk's slap shot was denied by Bobrovsky, but Samson blasted the puck home from the left faceoff circle for his first career goal in 31 NHL games.
Carolina defenseman Jaroslav Spacek exited the contest after taking a puck to the face in the second period. He did not return.
