Recap
Eric Staal's second goal of the game at 3:09 of overtime capped a furious comeback and lifted the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-3 win over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night.
With the Hurricanes on the power play, Staal blasted a one-timer past James Reimer to give Carolina its third consecutive victory at home and send Toronto to its eighth loss in 12 games this month.
Zac Dalpe had a goal and an assist - his first two points of the season - and Brandon Sutter added a goal as Carolina stormed back from a two-goal deficit in the final 10 1/2 minutes.
The Maple Leafs were seemingly in command after Nikolai Kulemin and Joffrey Lupul scored 2 1/2 minutes apart for a 3-1 lead with just under 11 minutes to play in the game.
Staal turned the momentum around 40 seconds after Lupul's tally, scoring on a breakaway to end a nine-game goalless drought and pull the Hurricanes within 3-2.
Dalpe, who assisted on Staal's first goal, knotted the score at 3-3 two minutes later with his first goal of the season.
Sutter gave Carolina a 1-0 lead at 4:15 of the first period, beating Reimer with a snap shot high to his glove side. Nazem Kadri tied it 1:43 into the second with a wraparound, his third goal in four games.
The Maple Leafs didn't help themselves by failing to convert on seven power-play opportunities.
