Recap
Dustin Brown scored the game-winner and added an assist as the Los Angeles Kings snapped a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Jonathan Quick made 24 saves and defenseman Davis Drewiske scored his first goal for the Kings, who picked up their first win under interim coach John Stevens.
Los Angeles fired coach Terry Murray in part because of the team’s stagnant offense. Thursday marked the 10th straight contest in which the Kings failed to score more than two goals.
Los Angeles took the lead at the 8:12 mark of the third. Drew Doughty blasted a shot from the right point and Brown got a stick down in front of it, redirecting the puck past Curtis Sanford.
The Blue Jackets struck first when Vinny Prospal’s wrister bounced off two players, including Jeff Carter, and went over Quick’s right shoulder in the second period. Carter got credit for his seventh tally and Prospal picked up his 17th assist.
The Kings finally got on the board on Drewiske’s goal at the 4:33 mark of the third. Drewiske sent a shot in from the left point on which Brown appeared to interfere with Sanford. The goal was upheld upon review.
