Defenseman Dennis Wideman netted a power-play goal 2:48 into overtime as the Washington Capitals skated to a 3-2 road triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.
Alex Ovechkin collected his first goal of the season and Mike Knuble recorded his 12th goal in his last 13 regular-season games versus Pittsburgh. The Capitals have now won four straight and eight of nine (8-0-1) against the Penguins.
Tomas Vokoun rebounded after permitting five goals in his last outing to turn aside 39 shots.
With Jordan Staal serving a tripping penalty in overtime, Wideman made the Penguins pay by ripping a shot past former Capitals netminder Brent Johnson for his second goal of the season.
James Neal scored twice - the latter with 3:45 remaining in the third to tie the game - and Evgeni Malkin returned from a two-game absence with a lower-body injury to notch a pair of assists for Pittsburgh.
Johnson finished with 16 saves, but fell to 4-2-1 in his career against his former club.

The game was marred by a third-period fight in which Washington's Arron Asham knocked out Pittsburgh counterpart Jay Beagle, then taunted the veteran forward on his way to the penalty box.
Earlier on Thursday, the Penguins announced that captain Sidney Crosby has been cleared for contact in practice. The 2007 Hart Trophy winner is still working his way back from concussion-like symptoms. There is still no timetable for his return.
