Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski missed a 32-yard field goal as time expired and the Arizona Cardinals held on for a 24-23 victory over the Raiders on Sunday at Glendale, Ariz.
Derek Anderson threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald late in the third quarter to give the Cardinals a 24-20 lead they never relinquished.
Bruce Gradkowski led the Raiders (1-2) on the potential game-winning drive. The Raiders were aided by a 39-yard pass interference penalty to set up the field goal attempt.
The Raiders led the seesaw affair at halftime 20-17.
Arizona’s LaRod Stephens-Howling returned the game’s opening kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown.
Oakland got a 22-yard touchdown pass from Gradkowski to tight end Zach Miller and a 2-yard scoring run by Darren McFadden in the first half.
The Cardinals (2-1) held a 17-13 lead after Anderson connected with Steve Breaston on a 2-yard touchdown pass. Anderson was 12 for 26 on the day for 122 yards.
McFadden carried the ball 25 times for 105 yards and a touchdown. Gradkowski finished 17 for 34 for 255 yards.
