San Jose State 62, No. 13 Fresno State 52: David Fales threw for a school-record 547 yards and six touchdowns - and ran for another - to lead the Spartans to a shootout victory that ruined the visiting Bulldogs' hopes for an undefeated season.

Fales was 37-of-45 for San Jose State (6-6, 5-3 Mountain West) and also set the school record for career completions. Tyler Winston had 10 catches for 164 yards and a touchdown, Kyle Nunn caught 10 for 160 yards and two scores and Chandler Jones had eight receptions for 146 yards and three touchdowns.

Derek Carr was equally impressive, completing 38-of-50 for 519 yards and six touchdowns for Fresno State (10-1, 7-1). Davante Adams finished with 13 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns, while Isaiah Burse had 10 receptions for 96 yards and a score.

The first half was a flurry of scoring, with Carr throwing for four scores and Fales for three in a first quarter that ended with the Bulldogs on top, 27-21. It was more of the same in the second quarter, with Fales throwing his sixth touchdown of the half with 18 seconds left to put the Spartans ahead by one at the break, 42-41.

The scoring slowed down considerably in the second half, with Thomas Tucker rushing in from 7 yards out to put San Jose State up eight midway through the third, which was the margin heading to the fourth after the teams exchanged field goals. The lead reached 15 when Fales snuck it in from a yard out early in the fourth, and the Spartans held on despite a late score by the Bulldogs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The two teams combined for 83 points in the first half, the highest scoring opening half in FBS this season and the most since 2008. … Carr actually took a step back from his last outing, a 522-yard, seven-touchdown passing day against New Mexico. … Tucker was the top ground gainer in the game, rushing 17 times for 65 yards.
