Vanderbilt 55, Wake Forest 21: Jordan Rodgers passed for two touchdowns and Jordan Matthews hauled in 10 receptions as the visiting Commodores reached eight victories for the first time since 1982.
Vanderbilt (8-4) capped its most successful regular season in 30 years with another dominating offensive performance, winning its sixth consecutive game while preventing the Demon Deacons (5-7) from becoming bowl eligible. Rodgers hit Matthews on a 64-yard touchdown pass in the midst of a 21-point second quarter as the Commodores led 28-7 at intermission.
Rodgers led Vanderbilt 85 yards on the game’s opening drive, finding Wesley Tate on a 25-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0. Tied at 7-7 after one quarter, Vanderbilt got a 15-yard touchdown run from Tate, Rodgers’ touchdown pass to Matthews and a 4-yard Zac Stacy scoring run.
Rodgers finished 17-of-23 for 229 yards for Vanderbilt, which is bowl eligible for the second consecutive season for the first time in school history. Matthews finished with 144 yards receiving and Stacy rushed for 180 yards.
Tanner Price completed only 17 of 36 passes for 182 yards for Wake Forest.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wake Forest's Michael Campanaro caught eight passes for 98 yards. … Vanderbilt’s Carey Spear kicked field goals of 52 and 50 yards in the third quarter. … Vanderbilt blew it open in the fourth quarter on a Jonathan Krause 83-yard punt return for a touchdown and Stacy’s 90-yard touchdown run, the longest in school history.
