No. 7 Notre Dame 20, No. 17 Stanford 13 (OT):
Tommy Rees threw a 7-yard scoring pass to TJ Jones in overtime and the Fighting Irish defense stopped the visiting Cardinal on consecutive plays from the 1-yard line to remain unbeaten.

Running back Stepfan Taylor was stuffed on the final two plays as Notre Dame (6-0) didn’t allow an offensive touchdown for the fourth consecutive contest. The final play was reviewed before officials upheld the call that the twisting Taylor didn’t get into the end zone.

Rees entered after Everett Golson left because of a possible concussion after a helmet-to-helmet hit with 3:27 to play and helped finish the drive in which Kyle Brindza kicked a 22-yard field goal with 20 seconds to play to force the overtime. Stanford’s Jordan Williamson had given the Cardinal (4-2) a 13-10 lead on a 27-yard field goal with 6:12 remaining.

The Cardinal trailed 3-0 in the second quarter when it had Notre Dame backed up at its own 4-yard line. Ben Gardner sacked Golson and forced a fumble that Chase Thomas fell on in the end zone with 6:06 left in the first half. Williamson kicked a 48-yard field goal on the final play of the half to give the Cardinal a 10-3 lead.

The Fighting Irish tied the contest at 10 with 14:15 left in regulation when Golson completed a 24-yard scoring pass to tight end Tyler Eifert on third-and-18.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Notre Dame hadn't trailed at any point this season until the fumble recovery in the end zone by Stanford’s Thomas. … Stanford was without sophomore receiver/returner Ty Montgomery, who was sidelined by a lower body injury. … Golson lost three fumbles, including one after a 20-yard gain to the Cardinal 17 with 4:32 left in the third quarter.
