No. 2 Oregon 51, Washington State 26: Kenjon Barner rushed for 195 yards and scored four touchdowns and Avery Patterson scored on a 34-yard interception return as Oregon routed Washington State in a Pac-12 contest played in Seattle.
Barner scored on runs of 22, 10 and 80 yards and also caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Marcus Mariota and the Ducks (5-0, 2-0) pulled away with a 21-point, third-quarter splurge while outclassing the Cougars (2-3, 0-2).
Washington State pulled within 23-19 with 6:10 left in the first half on a 26-yard scoring pass from Connor Halliday to Brett Bartolone. Oregon began to pull away by opening the second half with an 18-play, 76-yard drive, capped by De’Anthony Thomas’ 4-yard scoring run.
Patterson then intercepted Halliday and returned it for a score to make it 37-19 before Barner’s 10-yard run culminated the third-quarter push. Barner exploded for his 80-yard scoring jaunt to make it 51-19 with 10:52 remaining in the contest.
Halliday was 33 of 60 passing for 348 yards and star receiver Marquess Wilson caught 12 passes for 182 yards. Wilson caught a 25-yard scoring pass late in the game from Jeff Tuel.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Barner’s career-high rushing total was 201 yards against Fresno State on Sept. 8. … Wilson’s big contest raised his career total to 2,893 receiving yards, passing Brandon Gibson (2,756 from 2005-08) for most in school history. … The Ducks have won eight of the past nine meetings against Washington State.
