Texas A&M 70, South Carolina State 14: Dustin Harris broke school and SEC single-game records with 246 punt return yards for Texas A&M in the one-sided victory against visiting South Carolina State.
Harris fell 22 yards short of breaking the NCAA single-game record set by Antonio Perkins of Oklahoma in 2003. Harris returned a punt 96 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Texas A&M freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel passed for 174 yards and three touchdowns in just one half of play. Manziel also ran for touchdowns of 39 and 20 yards in a 35-point second quarter for Texas A&M (2-1).
Ben Malena also paced the ground attack for the Aggies, rushing for 88 yards in 11 carries and scoring two touchdowns.
South Carolina State (1-3) briefly kept the game close after Jalen Simmons ran for a 17-yard touchdown with 35 seconds left in the first quarter, cutting the deficit to 14-7.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Aggies outgained South Carolina State 265-34 in rushing yards. … Each team had nine different receivers catch passes.
