Tulsa 66, Nicholls State 16: Ja’Terian Douglas rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries as the Golden Hurricane rolled over the visiting Colonels.
Douglas ran 67 yards for a touchdown on the third play from scrimmage and scored on an 11-yard run in the second quarter as Tulsa (2-1) sprinted to a 42-9 halftime lead. Alex Singleton and Zack Langer also added two touchdowns for the Golden Hurricane, who amassed 566 total yards.
Nicholls State (0-2) registered 370 yards overall, but could not stop Tulsa from scoring on its first five possessions. Quarterback Cody Green, a transfer from Nebraska, was 10-for-15 for 130 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
Douglas also ran 73 yards to set up Tulsa’s second score, a Singleton 1-yard run, for a 14-0 lead with 8:35 left in the first quarter. Trey Watts capped a six-play drive with a 10-yard run to make it 21-0 and Tulsa was on its way.
Tulsa senior defensive back Dexter McCoil registered his first interception of the season in the third quarter, setting a new school record with 14 in his career.
