Virginia 43, Richmond 19: Kevin Parks ran for two touchdowns and Michael Rocco led an efficient passing attack as the host Cavaliers cruised past the Spiders.

Parks scored the first touchdown of the game and Rocco threw a 51-yard scoring pass within a 62-second stretch in the first quarter that helped Virginia (1-0) jump out to an early 16-0 advantage.

Rocco finished 25 of 37 for 311 yards before giving way to Phillip Sims early in the fourth.

Drew Jarrett added a pair of field goals to increase the margin to 22-0 midway through the second quarter before Kendall Gaskins scored on a short touchdown reception for Richmond (0-1) right before intermission.

Parks added another short scoring run in the third quarter as Virginia continued its assault on the ground, finishing with 184 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Tim Smith caught six passes for 96 yards for the Cavaliers, giving coach Mike London three wins in as many season openers - the first Virginia coach to accomplish that feat since Rice Warren in 1913.

John Laub threw for 178 yards and a score for the Spiders, who were held to just 28 yards rushing.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rocco is the nephew of the Spiders' new coach, Danny Rocco. ... Parks, a sophomore, scored three times in his college debut last season, giving him five touchdowns in the Cavaliers' last two season openers. ... Virginia has won each of the last nine games of this series.
