Kendrick Hardy rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown as Southern Mississippi cruised to a 52-6 victory over visiting Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
Austin Davis was 16-for-23 passing for 143 yards and two touchdowns, but the Golden Eagles did most of their damage on the ground as they outrushed the Lions 335-51.
Jamie Collins recorded four sacks for Southern Miss (2-1), which outgained Southeastern Louisiana 478-285 and improved to 19-3 all-time against the Lions.
After blowing a two-touchdown lead and losing last week at Marshall, Southern Miss led 28-7 when Korey Williams returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half.
This week, however, the Golden Eagles weren’t about to fade down the stretch.
Davis’ 17-yard touchdown pass to Collin Jarbo gave Southern Mississippi a 38-6 lead early in the fourth quarter, and Jeremy Hester followed with a 15-yard touchdown run before Octavius Thomas capped the scoring with an interception return for a touchdown.
Southeastern Louisiana (1-2) quarterback Brian Young was 10-for-20 passing for 82 yards.
