Recap: Virginia Tech 17, East Carolina 10
Sep 10, 2011
Josh Oglesby capped a 13-play, 89-yard drive with his second touchdown run to help No. 11 Virginia Tech survive a scare from host East Carolina and pull out a 17-10 victory on Saturday.
David Wilson rushed for 138 yards on 26 carries and the Hokies (2-0) totaled 236 yards on the ground while holding the ball for almost 42 minutes in the contest.
The Pirates (0-2) would not let Virginia Tech get anything going through the air and knotted the game at 10-10 when Michael Barbour converted a 48-yard field goal with 5:40 left in the third quarter.
Virginia Tech went back to the ground after that, gaining 80 of the 89 yards rushing while chewing up 7 1/2 minutes on its fourth-quarter scoring drive. Wilson did the heavy lifting with seven carries for 49 yards on the drive before Oglesby broke through for the score.
The Hokies defense, which held East Carolina to minus 15 yards on the ground, forced a four-and-out on the Pirates' ensuing possession and did not let them cross midfield again.
