Recap: Alabama 48, Kent State 7
Sep 3, 2011
Trent Richardson rushed for 37 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries and the defense dominated as No. 2 Alabama rolled over visiting Kent State, 48-7, on Saturday afternoon.
Jalston Fowler and Eddie Lacy each added a rushing touchdown and Marquis Maze finished with eight catches for 118 yards and a score for the Crimson Tide, who held the Golden Flashes to just 89 yards.
Still trying to settle on a quarterback to replace the departed Greg McElroy, Alabama gave snaps to both A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims against Kent State. McCarron finished 15-of-24 for 232 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while Sims struggled a bit more, completing just 7-of-14 passes for 72 and a pair of interceptions.
Sims also took two sacks.
The Crimson Tide scored three times in the first quarter, with Richardson twice finding the end zone and McCarron hitting Maze for a 24-yard strike.
The Golden Flashes got on the board early in the third, but the Crimson Tide defense proved to be too much for the Mid-American Conference school. Kent State finished with minus-10 yards rushing.
