North Carolina State overcame a third-quarter deficit and then held off a late rally to beat North Carolina, 29-25.

The Wolfpack (8-3, 5-2) now controls it own destiny in the ACC Atlantic Division.

North Carolina (6-5, 3-4) scored with 1:05 remaining on a pass from T.J. Yates to Christian Wilson. But on the two-point conversion to tie the score, Yates rolled right and lobbed a pass that fell incomplete in the back of the end zone.

North Carolina was leading 19-10 after a 38-yard field goal by Casey Barth with five minutes left in the third period. But the Wolfpack, which has beaten the Tar Heels four straight games, answered. Russell Wilson threw a two-yard touchdown to Owen Spencer to trim the deficit to 19-17. Then C.J. Feagles gave NC State its first lead, 24-19, returning a punt 87 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter.

NC got a last second safety when it sacked Yates in the end zone. Yates finished with 411 yards, completed on 34 of 44 passes.

If NC State wins Saturday at Maryland, it wins the Atlantic Division and will play in the Dec. 4 conference title game against the Coastal Division winner.
